Happy Holidays

Just a moment to wish you all Merry Holidays and an Happy New Years. I have the feeling that 2012 will be a though one so good luck to you all. I have a few days off for the holidays and I intend to work on the house and finishing to clean up the warehouse / garage in order to be able to have some working space. If I still have some time left after that I’ll probably try to catch up with my writing and blogging. Enjoy the holidays and take care of yourselves!

I remember seeing my father seating at his old desk in the basement, surrounded by piles of newspapers. As he was reading them, he would clip articles that would interest him and — instead of gathering them in scrapbooks — would classify them in subject-indexed filing cabinets (he was particularly interested in national history, genealogy, or personalities belonging to some family names he was researching).

As a kid I quickly learned to emulate him and gathered my own newspaper clippings in files dedicated to subjects that would fascinate any kids in those days: prehistory, archaeology, dinosaurs, UFOs, paranormal, international politics, and the philosophy of religions. That’s an habit that probably made me the news junkie I am today, but I am now just realizing that I am still doing somekind of news scrapbooking — virtually! When I gather links of the news stories that interest me in my weekly press review I do it to share them with my (quasi-inexistant) readers, but mostly to keep them for my own future reading and research. Therefore I am continuing this old habit of news scrapbooking. It’s amazing that I am only realizing this now. That certainly makes sense as it takes less space and is more ecological!

Busy couple of weeks both at work (a few co-workers were either off on vacation or on sick-leave, document.write(“”); so we were all scrambling around; we caught a dvd thief!) and at home (trying to finish preparing the house for winter but, as usual, there’s not enough hours in a day). I got my work schedule for winter and I am doing a little more hours than in fall so I am quite happy with it. A surprising revelation makes my life feels like a soap-opera (and that’s all I can say). The gray weather makes me feels tired and depressed… Reading the news (even on a binge) does nothing to improve the mood… (See the news links after the jump)

Despite some seemingly (and, document.write(“”); I am quite sure, temporary) good news, new and unexpected upheaval is making everyone at work very upset. This continuing situation is utterly depressing, unnerving and rather demotivating. (By Jove, what are they thinking?!) I just hope it will eventually calm down, because some of us cannot take this for long without damages. Luckily we recently had a pay raise… [Update: The rollercoaster ride continues… Up again! Some quite wise decisions averted the crisis and everyone is smilling again!] In other news, I visited the Montreal book fair, I am taking care of my sister’s cats for the week and we got the first snow of the season (a couple of inches [5 cm], enough so I had to shovel!). Yesterday was Thanksgiving in the USA: some people are simply thankful to have a job; for my part I am thankful to have found such a nice and affordable house. Happy Thanksgiving! (and, no, this it NOT Turkey’s “Independance Day”!) In order to try keeping my spirit up, I am reading some great comics and I am following the news (after the jump):

Another busy week. All the stress at work is finally getting to me (both mentally and physically). I am feeling really tired and definitely need a few days of vacation. The Holidays will probably be even crazier with all the work to move out the books from the library, document.write(“”); so I better get some rest before then. I also just got the flu shot so my entire body hurts. And there’s a zillion things that I still have to do in the new house. The heater in the guest room started slightly leaking again; I don’t know yet what I’ll do with that… The Montreal book fair is coming later this week and I’ll probably attend some workshops about children & YA literature just to keep my mind sharp. Finally, I really hate Google: not only they changed the interface of Blogger, but also of Reader, not only making them more confusing but also eliminating the functions I was using to gather my links for this entry. That’s why the Shared Items have not been updated in a while, so until I find an alternative solution (I’ll investigate Digg, Google+ or others whenever I have time later this week) ALL my suggested links can be found bellow:

I am exiting the subway station and notice that it is raining outside. Sitting against the wall of the station, document.write(“”); under its protruding roof in an attempt to get some protection from the light rain, a young man in worn out clothes is begging. A small black labrador dog is sleeping at his sides. He asks me, “Can you spare some change, sir?” Trying to look contrite, but I am sure I sounded rather smart-assed, I answer him: “Sorry, son, if it’s change you want, I cannot help you. Change must come from within.” And I busily continue on my way home.

J’entre dans la station de métro en même temps qu’une bourrasque de vent. Je me rends en quelques pas vers l’escalier mécanique que je descends à grande vitesse, document.write(“”); pestant contre les gens qui ne respectent pas la tradition de tenir la droite dans les escaliers et couloirs du métro. Je murmure un vague “S’cusé” pour qu’on me cède le passage. Au bas de l’escalier, un camelot de L’Itinéraire, offrant des exemplaires du magazine dans un présentoire suspendu à son cou, répète machinalement “L’Itinéraire! L’Itinéraire!” Je n’y porte aucune attention mais au moment où je passe à ses côtés il m’interpelle: “Monsieur? L’Itinéraire?”. Je lui réponds, avec un air contrit, “Non, désolé, je sais très bien où je vais. Merci.” Et je continue mon chemin, sans ralentir, vers les tourniquets de la station…

Another though week at work due to the excruciatingly slow computer system. I finally got a plumber to repair the heating system at home. It was about time since it is getting quite cold at night. I also spent the entire day friday walking around in the city of Outremont, document.write(“”); enjoying the parks and looking at rich people’s homes. It’s nice to dream once in a while that you could be a millionaire. I think that’s the first time in six months that I could really rest and enjoy a sunny (although a little chilly) day. Weekly Press Review (2011/10/21)

The last couple of weeks were difficult at work because the computer network was frustratingly slow (difficult for the library staff because it meant extra work and frustrating for the patrons because they had to wait and couldn’t get everything they wanted immediately), document.write(“”); adding to the depressing work environment created by the imminent closing. Fortunately, it was not all bad and this week was Christmas come early for me: not only Apple released iOS 5 and iCloud on wednesday (hours and hours of download and installation joy — successful after only two attempts — and after a long set-up process my iPad2 feels like new!), but they also launch the new iPhone 4S on friday (over three hours of wait in a drenching rain in the early morning — I got a cold — plus an hour at Koodo for the activation, to get a new magical device that will replace my old Motorola flip phone, my iPod Touch second generation and even my Canon PowerShot S5IS camera! I am quite satisfied with my black 32Gb iPhone 4S even if it costed me a small fortune). I was so busy in the last few days with that sprint of computer installation that I feel it has been an eternity since I last blogged. I also did a little work around the house, but still found time to read some news (on my new devices):

The same lingering around, document.write(“”); depressing thoughts. Feels like going nowhere. I cannot get any work done, so I read and watch TV. I am still in the fourth book of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, A Feast for Crows. The least interesting one so far. Not enough action and we barely see most of the main characters that we got used to love (at least those who were not killed off). Instead, there’s a bunch of new characters. I feel like Martin is stalling his story (like those Naruto filler episodes!). But there’s only 198 days left before the start of the TV series’ second season. And only two weeks before The Walking Dead TV series restart! I also read news on my iPad (while waiting for Apple’s new announcement next week). Here’s what I found interesting:

After nearly three years working in several libraries I was happy to finally get a more stable schedule, document.write(“”); all in a single library. It seems it will not last as, in January, I will probably be back (if I’m lucky) at working in several libraries, with a schedule varying from week to week. You realize that a society is really broken when the people in power start closing down libraries — even if it’s only a partial closing. I don’t understand: while some boroughs are spending millions to build news libraries and expend their services, one is closing the adult section of its best, oldest and nicest library. And people (or at least the media) don’t really care, focusing instead on the lost of a public pool or a few community centers. I know how to solve this city’s budget problems: there’re nineteen mayors (and a lot more related councillors) too many! While you ponder on that, here are my weekly news links…

Summer Press Review (June-July-August)

I swear I’ll never work six days in a week anymore: it’s too tiring. The good news is that I will have a more stable schedule for fall, document.write(“”); so I should be able to completely recover AND be able to blog regularly. I should also be able to catch up a little more on all the articles and reviews that I started but never put online (including the comments on the latest—and past—Montreal World Film Festival !). Here I am sharing with you the last part of the news links that I saved this summer (either because they were quite interesting or to simply bookmark them for myself). I also just realized that The Gazette, on top of not keeping their articles online very long, are now limiting access to their web page at only thirty articles per month! I understand that the full electronic version should be accessible only with a subscription but, since the web version is already only a selection of articles, they should give a full access to it. That’s really ridiculous! I guess I’ll start reading something else…

Summer Press Review (March-April-May)

If searching for and purchasing a new home was already quite an ordeal, document.write(“”); moving into a new place when you have as much stuff as we have was a rather horrible experience! I’ve already talked a bit about it in a previous entry (in french) and in another focusing more on the reorganization of the office. There are still lots of works to do, but I am quite happy with the new place. Anyway, I am finally back on the blogosphere after five months of absence. During that time I have continued to read and bookmark news items that I found particularly interesting, but I was too busy to share them with you. I am now catching up and correcting this sorry omission…… (at least for the links that are still good; damn it!, newspapers, please keep your articles online at least a few months — I am talking particularly to you, The Gazette!)

Si la recherche et l’achat d’une maison a été une expérience éprouvante, le déménagement, lui, s’est avéré une aventure plutôt horrible. C’est que j’ai pas mal de “stuff.” Quand j’ai fermé mon bureau en faveur d’un “home office” j’ai tout rapatrié dans mon sous-sol sans vraiment avoir le temps de faire le ménage. Quand mes parents ont vendu la maison familiale, j’ai tout rapatrié mes affaires dans le sous-sol toujours sans avoir le temps de faire le ménage… Le sous-sol était donc plutôt plein, avec beaucoup de choses qui auraient pu être jetées, recyclées, données ou même vendues. Pris dans l’engrenage du quotidien je n’ai pas fait le ménage nécessaire et j’ai manqué de temps. La plupart des places où j’avais prévu donner du matérial informatique ou des livres n’étaient pas capable de répondre à mes besoins dans des délais raisonable. Je me suis donc retrouvé à jeter tout ce que je pouvais et à empaqueter le reste en vue de faire un vrai ménage définitif une fois rendu dans notre nouvelle maison. Mais ça faisait pas mal de stock à mettre en boites… C’était vraiment décourageant.

Le déménagement comme tel a été tout aussi long et pénible. Ça c’est étiré sur deux jours et un total de quatorze heures. Ça ma coûté un bras mais les déménageurs ont été plutôt cool et professionels. Par contre l’aménagement des pièces s’est fait sans trop de problèmes. J’ai réussi à faire placer les meubles là où je les voulais avec les piles de boites correspondantes dans le milieu de chaque pièce. Tout s’est rangé assez vite sans que les pièces aient l’air trop chargées. Bon, ça a quand même pris quelques semaines avant que le rez-de-chaussez soit présentable et je n’ai toujours pas fini d’installer les rideaux et stores. J’ai bourré le garage avec tout le reste du “stuff” (paperasses, affaires du bureau, etc., toutes ces choses où il va me falloir faire le ménage). Pour le sous-sol, où j’ai installé la salle télé et mon bureau, ça a été un peu plus long à organiser.

Comme nous sommes déménagé dans un espace plus petit et que je ne voulais pas charger le rez-de-chaussée, j’ai tout mis le reste des affaires dans le garage — en particulier tout le matériel relatif au bureau. Le garage était donc plein au rebord au point que c’était difficile d’y circuler et qu’on manquait d’espace pour trier les boites. Même mon bureau, au sous-sol, a été pas mal encombré pour plusieurs semaines. La réorgansation de mon bureau a été toute une aventure en soi. Ayant pris près d’un mois de vacances pour m’occuper de la mise en boites, du déménagement et de l’aménagement, j’ai pris les bouchés double au travail par le suite et j’ai travaillé assez souvent des semaine de six jours. C’était fatiguant et ne me laissait pas beaucoup de temps pour m’occupé de l’aménagement de mon bureau au sous-sol et du ménage des boites dans le garage. Toutefois j’ai dû m’occuper précipitement de ces dernières lorsque le garage a été inondé à cause d’un problème d’écoulement d’eau dans la rue en face de chez moi. J’ai dû réaménagé les boites dans le garage afin qu’elles soient à bonne distance du plancher et les trier pour évaluer ce qui avait été endomager par l’eau. Finalement, après trois mois de plaintes à la ville, des travaux temporaires ont finalement été affectuées cette semaines. J’espère que cela va définitiement corriger le problème…

Enfin, je suis donc finalement installé dans mon petit duplex du quartier Saint-Michel, acheté en copropriété indivise avec ma soeur. Je travaille encore beaucoup et j’ai une fin d’été pas mal occupé (Otakuthon, le festival des films du monde, etc.). Tout cela m’a épuisé et il me semble que j’ai un peu de dificulté à récupérer (cela a occasioné de petits problèmes de santé) mais là ça semble aller mieux. J’ai aussi commencé à lire la série “A Song of Ice and Fire” de George R.R. Martin (qui a été superbement adapté par HBO à la télé). J’en suis au troisième volume (“A Storm of Sword”, qui fait suite à ”A Game of Thrones” et ”A Clash of Kings”). Ça me tiens occupé dans l’autobus et le métro, puis le soir avant de dormir. C’est tellement cool de lire sur mon iPad (quoique dans le métro je préfère lire sur le iPod, c’est moins encombrant). Je lis également “Dispatches from a Public Librarian” de Scott Douglas. Mais là, je me dis qu’il va aussi me falloir recommencer à écrire et à bloguer. Ça me manque beaucoup mais, entre le travail et les choses à faire sur la maison (aménagement et beaucoup de petits travaux de réparations et d’amélioration), c’est difficile de trouver le temps. Ce sont les premiers pas qui sont toujours les plus difficiles à faire. Alors, voici: c’est fait, mais il reste tant de choses que je voudrais dire… Enfin, vous verrez bien.

After a few weeks of exhausting search—and the drama of a few false hopes—we’ve finally found a new lair. It’s a little expensive and the yard is smaller than what we wanted, document.write(“”); but it is so perfect in many other aspects. Now there’s tons of paperwork to take care of and, of course, there’s the big move (meaning lots of packing to do). I guess we’ll still be quite busy for a couple of months, but our life should be back to “normal” (whatever normal is) by the summer. I miss writing. I don’t even have time to watch most of my favourites TV shows and they are accumulating on the PVR. I didn’t have much time to read news either, but here’s a few interesting ones that I have gathered:

We’ve started visiting houses. So far, document.write(“”); nothing too exciting (too far, too small, too timeworn), but many of my favourite candidates have sold even before I had time to visit. Quite frustrating. In the end it will certainly be a game of compromise and maybe the hardest decision of my life… And there’s so many other things to do that I don’t have much time left to watch TV or read. Waltz at arms

It was a cold winter night and I was quietly watching TV, document.write(“”); relaxing through the out-of-body experience provided by a great action flick when I started to feel an attack of tinnitus. I turned the sound of explosions down to give a break to my poor hearing, but then I realized that it was not my ears that were ringing but a smoke detector somewhere in the house! I put the movie on pause and started investigating around the house, taking deep breaths to try to calm the sudden flow of adrenaline racing through my body but also in an attempt to smell if there was any smoke in the air.

After checking the first floor, moving quickly from room to room, like if I was dancing, I finally got to the basement. I first checked the carbon monoxyde detector which was showing all green lights. By then I could pin-point the source of the noise. It was the smoke detector near the bedroom, at the end of the corridor, which was making a strange wimpy sound, at a lower pitch than it should normally do. I guessed that the battery simply needed replacement.

It is incredible how each day can be filled with excitement! I changed the battery, checked the other smoke detectors and went back to the action flick…

J’espère que vous avez tous passé un bon solstice. J’aimerais également vous souhaiter une bonne et heureuse année 2011. Avec tout le bonheur et le moins de catastrophe possible! Pour ma part, document.write(“”); tout ce que je veux c’est trouver un petit lopin de terre pour planter mes pénates et ranger mon volumineux bazar. Comme je l’ai déjà dit, la télévision sur internet a beaucoup d’avenir et la destination de choix pour la télé francophone au Québec est sans doute TouTV.ca. Malheureusement pour moi, TouTV.ca utilise la technologie d’Adobe Flash pour diffuser ses émissions sur le web et je ne peux donc pas les visioner avec mon iPad. Bonne nouvelle: un récent article nous apprend que Tou.tv lancera en décembre des applications iPad et iPhone! Enfin!

Je lis beaucoup d’actualités sur mon iPad. On peut lire l’information directement sur les sites internet des grands quotidiens, mais de plus en plus ceux-ci produisent des applications pour iPhone et iPad afin de présenter les articles (ou, dans la plupart des cas, une sélection d’articles) dans un format qui se lit plus aisément. Un des quotidiens que je lis le plus fréquemment est La Presse (ou “Cyberpresse” pour sa version électronique). Jusqu’à récemment j’utilisais l’application pour iPhone (sur le iPad on double les pixels pour visioner plein écran, mais l’image est moins précise et la présentation plutôt simple) mais il existe depuis quelques semaines une version de l’application pour iPad qui rend la lecture des articles beaucoup plus agréable de par sa superbe présentation. Bravo!

Ça bouge beaucoup chez Apple ces temps-ci. Lors d’une conférence de presse (“Back to the Mac”) tenue le 20 octobre dernier, Apple a dévoilé la mise à jour annuelle de la suite de logiciels iLife (dont j’attend impatiemment la livraison) et a donné un bref aperçu de son prochain système d’opération pour le Mac (OS X 10.7): Lion (attendu pour l’été prochain). On y a également lancé la nouvelle version du portable ultra-léger et rapide (flash-drive oblige!) MacBook Air. De plus, deux autres mise à jour de système d’opération sont attendu pour bientôt: une version améliorée de “Snow Leopard” (Mac OS X 10.6.5, attendue imminament) et iOS 4.2 (qui devrait amener des tas d’amélioration pour l’iPad, dont la fonction multitâche, et qu’on attend en novembre).

Finalement, je ne pouvais pas manquer de mentioner, en cette chaude journée d’Octobre (le mercure atteint les 18’C !!) que mon blogue a maintenant accueillit plus de 10,000 visiteurs! Ces derniers mois, la moyenne de visites quotidienne a presque doublée (à 28). C’est bien mais c’est encore très peu. En un peu plus de cinq ans je n’ai d’ailleurs écrit que trois-cent-quarante-six entrées (dont près de la moitié cette année seulement)… On fait ce qu’on peut (je pourrais faire des entrées plus courtes et plus nombreuses… écouter moins de télé, etc., mais le travail me laisse encore trop vidé de mon énergie).

Je me rattrape néanmoins peu à peu sur mes projets d’articles. Les prochaines entrées à venir seront sans doute les commentaires sur le “hands-on” du iPad, mes apps favorites, les films japonais du FFM, et sur plusieurs lectures (plus ou moins) récentes. De nombreux imprévus causeront certainement des retards et il ne faut pas oublier que je dois mettre (plus) de temps sur mon ménage et mon déménagement! (J’essai de ne pas trop y penser, pcq c’est trop déprimant!). En terminant, je ne peux que (une fois de plus) demander à mes quelques lecteurs de (svp) laisser des commentaires! (histoire de ne pas avoir l’impression de parler dans le vide…)

Allez hop!, passons maintenant à la revue de presse. Les actualités d’intérêts sont nombreuses cette semaine…

Revue de Presse / Press Review (2010/10/17)

Personal update: What a marvelous week I had. First, document.write(“”); my set-up to watch video crashed with my network drives, so I’ve lost a terabyte of data (hopefully eventually recoverable) and I had to replace my old Apple TV with a brand new Mac Mini. Then I am handcuffed and searched by police as the result of a miserable technological failure. On top of that I’ve worked six days for three weeks in a row, ending with a seven-day stretch, so a couple of days rest will be more than welcome. All this just to prove that nothing will keep me from reading the news:

Des fois on expérimente dans la vie des événements qui, document.write(“”); quand on y repense par la suite, semblaient présager ce que l’avenir nous réservait. Je ne saurais dire si cela est le résultat de quelque extraordinaire coïncidence ou d’une sorte d’étrange alignement karmique, mais cela m’est arrivé à quelques reprises. Par exemple, je me souviens avoir vu, à la fin de l’été 2001, un reportage sur la situation en Afghanistan, puis, quelques jours plus tard à une conférence de presse du Festival des Films du Monde, j’ai vu un groupe de femmes afghanes faire un éclat pour attirer l’attention sur leur situation sous les talibans. Une semaine plus tard, deux avions de ligne percutaient les tours du World Trade Center, menant ultimement à la guerre en Afghanistan… La conjoncture de ces événements dans ma vie me donna une sinistre impression.

Et bien hier j’ai de nouveau expérimenté cette étrange conjoncture…

Mercredi dernier, dans le cadre des “Grands Reportages”, Radio-Canada montrait le documentaire La Rafle qui décrivait les abus policers et la suspension des droits civils suite aux arrestations arbitraires qui eurent lieu lors des “Événements d’Octobre” de 1970 et dont on commémorait le quarantième anniversaire. Je n’avais pas le temps d’écouter ce reportage alors je l’ai enregistré sur l’enregistreur video personal (EVP) de mon terminal illico. Hier, au retour du travail, j’ai décider de le visionner tout en mangeant mon souper. Intéressante, cette période de notre histoire. Heureusement, des choses comme ça ne pourraient plus se produire de nos jours (famous last word / claquement de tonnerre sinistre). Je ne n’avais aucune idée de ce que cela pourrait présager pour moi… (mais j’aurais du me douter qu’une date comme le 10-10-10 me réserverait quelques surprises: on me dit qu’en binaire ce chiffre fait quarante-deux — un nombre significatif si on en croit le Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy!)

“Book ‘im, Danno!”

Après avoir visionné “La Rafle” j’ai continué à regarder des émissions de télé pré-enregistrées, jusqu’à ce que le buzzer et la sonnette de la porte d’entrée retentissent tous deux avec insistance. Il est à peu près vingt-heure trente: je ne reçoit pratiquement jamais de visiteurs (surtout pas en soirée) et il est encore trop tôt pour que ma femme revienne de son travail. Je vais donc ouvrir la porte d’entrée avec une prudente curiosité.

Sur le perron je découvre quatre agents de police plus ou moins disposés en éventail devant la porte. J’ai un bref moment de panique et imagine qu’il est arrivé quelque chose à ma femme. Je n’ai cependant pas le temps de dire quoique ce soit, notant en un éclair que deux des policiers ont la mains sur leurs armes de service, que l’un d’entre eux me demande poliment de sortir sur le balcon. Tout se passe très vite: je suis éberlué par la tournure des événements et dans le temps de le dire je suis fouillé pour s’assurer que je ne dissimule pas d’armes et je suis menottée les mains derrières le dos. On m’explique alors (c’est toujours le même policier qui parle; c’est sans doute le plus haut gradé des quatre), lentement et calmement, qu’un appel anonyme les avait averti qu’une femme se faisait violentée au couteau à mon adresse et qu’on voulait simplement fouiller mon appartement pour s’assurer que tout allait bien. Ou bien c’était la femme elle-même qui, poursuivit par son conjoint avec un couteau, s’était enfermée dans la salle de bain et avait appelé la police avec son cellulaire; je ne sais plus, je ne me souviens plus très bien de l’explication. J’ai protesté faiblement que j’étais seul dans l’appartement, qu’il n’y avait personne d’autre et que ma femme était encore à son travail. Quelques instant plus tard, deux policiers ayant fait le tour de la place et constaté qu’effectivement il n’y avait rien à signaler et que j’étais bien seul, on m’a libéré avec des excuses qui semblaient bien sincères.

J’ai alors cherché à avoir quelques explications. “Vous êtes bien sûr que c’était mon adresse?” ai-je demandé. “Vous savez les livreurs de restaurants passe leur temps à venir sonner chez moi alors que leur destination véritable est la rue d’à côté. Ça ne serait pas la première fois que quelqu’un se trompe d’adresse” dis-je sur un ton nerveux qui essayait de détendre l’atmosphère. On m’assure qu’il n’y a pas d’erreur et que c’est bel et bien l’adresse qu’on leur a donné. Je demande à avoir du suivi sur cette affaire, si cela est possible. Les policiers sont parti, me laissant sur le perron à m’inquiéter que mes chats aient profité de la porte restée ouverte plusieurs minutes pour s’échapper. Mais heureusement l’un dormait profondément sur le divan du salon et l’autre, plutôt peureux, se cachait au sous-sol. Les policiers sont resté un petit bout de temps dans leur voitures de patrouille, attendant sans doute de nouvelles instructions.

J’en conclu que tout cela est peut-être un canular (bien méchant) ou que les téléphonistes du 911 aurait mal comprit l’adresse. Cela a, dans les deux cas, des conséquences désagréables pour quelqu’un: dans un cas mon amour-propre a été blessé (se faire ainsi menotter sur son perron, nue pied et en robe de chambre, à la vue de tout les voisins, c’est assez humiliant!), dans l’autre il y a une victime espérant des secours qui n’arrive pas…

But who watches the watchmen?

J’ai passé un coup de fil à ma sœur. Parler de cette aventure rocambolesque m’a aidé à me calmer. Puis je suis retourné regarder la télé…

Toutefois, si l’on laisse une graine de paranoïa germer pour un instant, la question se pose: n’est-il pas un peu trop facile pour les forces de l’ordre d’arrêter les gens, des pénétrer dans leur domicile sans mandat et de fouiller les lieux? Et qui sait ce qu’ils auraient pu faire d’autre dans mon appartement pendant que j’étais menoté à l’extérieur?

Bien sûr, on peut toujours argumenter que les policiers ont été poli, efficace, et qu’ils avaient des raisons justifiées (“probable cause” comme ils disent dans les séries télé) d’agir comme ils l’ont fait. Après tout ils ne faisaient que leur travail et nous en sommes plus sécure. Mais n’empêche que, quand c’est à vous que ça arrive, ce n’est jamais drôle. L’adrénaline me monte au nez rien que d’y penser et la vue d’une voiture de police me donne encore d’étranges sueurs froides…

Si je n’avait pas écrit ceci je pourrais croire, maintenant, que tout cela n’était qu’un (mauvais) rêve…

Il faut aussi croire que je ne suis pas le seul à qui une telle aventure est arrivée durant ce long week-end… Étrange, vraiment étrange.

Update (2010-10-12): Après une visite au poste de police pour obtenir des clarifications, il s’avère que l’appel a été placé à la police de Longueuil. Aucune addresse n’ayant été donné, l’appel cellulaire a été triangulé à mon addresse — où la police n’a trouvé qu’un “homme en pyjama regardant la télé avec son chat”. Il a par la suite été établi que la dame en détresse était localisée à Rougemont en Montérégie! J’ai donc été victime d’une défaillance technologique… C’est beau le progrès!
